What is Business Relationship Management?

Business Relationship Management (BRM) is both a discipline and an organizational capability. At its core, BRM is about building and sustaining the trusted relationships between a provider organization, such as IT and its business partners that enable value to be co-created, business strategies to be supported, and organizational purpose to be served.

The BRM role sits at the intersection of business and provider, acting as a strategic connector, a culture shaper and a value driver. About this course

The BRMP® course provides a comprehensive foundation in BRM covering the BRM capability framework, the BRM role and its competencies, the key disciplines and tools of BRM practice, and how a BRM team advances an organization's BRM capability across four core activity domains: Evolve Culture, Build Partnerships, Drive Value and Satisfy Purpose.

The course is built on BRM Institute's holistic view of BRM one that goes beyond IT-business liaison to encompass a broader theory of Relationshipism and the Triple Bottom Line, recognizing that organizations that truly embrace BRM move beyond profit and products to encompass people, purpose and planet.

Practical tools are built into every module, including the BRM Capability workbook, the Relationship Maturity Model (RMM), the Relationship Strategy on a Page (RSOAP), the Idea Document, Value Plan and more.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain what BRM is, why it matters and the value it provides to an organization, including how effective BRM positively impacts business results

  • Describe the BRM Capability Framework and its five core capability areas: Organizational Purpose and Strategy, Evolve Culture, Build Partnerships, Drive Value and Satisfy Purpose

  • Apply the BRM tools, approaches and templates associated with each capability area to achieve practical results

  • Explain the BRM role - its purpose, scope, single point of focus, mindset and contribution to organizational strategy

  • Apply the BRM Role Competency Model to assess and develop BRM capability within an organization

  • Explain the concepts of Relationship Maturity, Relationship Quality and how these are assessed and improved over time

  • Describe how a BRM Team is defined, organized, led and assessed, including team purpose, mission, vision and transition management

  • Apply the principles of value discovery, value realization and value results across the Drive Value capability domain

Are there any prerequisites?
