Develop the specialised knowledge and practical skills to manage software assets effectively from licensing compliance and regulatory obligations to strategic programme development and cost control.
This IAITAM Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) course is the foundational certification for software asset management professionals and the starting point for any comprehensive ITAM programme.
Delivered live in our virtual classroom by an expert instructor. The certification is awarded by APMG International.
IAITAM (International Association of IT Asset Managers) is the global professional body for IT asset management practitioners. Its certification programmes define the knowledge standards for ITAM professionals and are recognised by organisations worldwide as the benchmark for competence in managing IT assets.
The Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) is IAITAM's foundational certification for software asset management covering the business practices, regulatory landscape, compliance obligations and strategic approaches that enable organisations to manage their software assets effectively and derive maximum value from their software investments.
Software Asset Management (SAM) is increasingly recognised as a necessary business function, not just a technical discipline. Organisations that manage software assets well reduce compliance risk, uncover hidden savings, increase accountability and gain meaningful control over a significant and often poorly understood area of IT expenditure.
This course equips students with the knowledge to manage software assets across the full organisational context understanding not only what SAM is, but how to do it effectively. It addresses the ever-changing variables across the ITAM industry: from software piracy and compliance issues to legislation and organisational challenges, covering both internal and external influences on how organisations manage their software assets.
A successful Software Asset Manager must look at overall organisational goals and determine where SAM will be a strategic influence in achieving them. This course teaches the "when" and "why" of sound decision-making, how to identify clear goals and how to quantify success with meaningful metrics.
Core focus areas include: reducing risk, increasing accountability, uncovering cost savings and gaining control of the IT environment. The course also covers communication and education, policy and procedures, project management, software assets and compliance management.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Explain existing software regulations, understand the importance of adhering to them, and assess how they affect current and future business activities
Apply a proactive stance to software compliance, including the steps needed to achieve and maintain compliance rather than react to it
Design and implement a well-planned Software Asset Management programme, including policy, procedures and governance structures
Apply communication and education strategies that build SAM awareness and engagement across the organisation
Manage software assets through the full lifecycle, from acquisition and deployment through to disposal
Use metrics to quantify the success and value of the SAM programme to stakeholders and senior management
Understand the strategic role of the Software Asset Manager as a key contributor to organisational success
