Description

Gain the knowledge and confidence to manage digital products and services with this foundational ITIL certification course.

ITIL Foundation (Version 5) introduces the shared language, core concepts and unified lifecycle for managing digital products and services in modern, AI-driven organisations. This course is the entry point for all learners and prepares you for the ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) examination and certification, awarded by PeopleCert.

ITSM Hub offers multiple delivery methods including virtual classroom, self-paced online and onsite options.

What is ITIL® Version 5?

ITIL is the global best practice framework for Digital Product and Service Management. It is the world's most widely adopted IT service management framework, trusted by over 3 million professionals, powering 82% of the Fortune 500, and used by more than 50,000 organisations worldwide.

ITIL Version 5 is the next evolution of ITIL 4. Where previous versions focused on IT service management, ITIL Version 5 goes further, as IT moves to the front lines of business, it's relevant wherever digital products and services create value. ITIL Version 5 is designed for AI-driven, digital-first organisations and expands the framework from service management to full digital product and service management.

ITIL Version 5 guides organisations in managing digital products, services, customer experience and end-to-end digital operations in a structured and future-ready way.

Many organisations manage products and services separately, creating gaps in delivery, reliability and customer experience. In reality, they are two sides of the same coin:

  • Products are what organisations build

  • Services are how value is delivered and supported

ITIL Version 5 unifies them into one lifecycle so teams can:

Design together

Build and launch together

Operate and improve together

Align product and service design from the start

Reduce handoff gaps and launch faster

Continuously improve as one connected team

The result: faster delivery, fewer gaps, better experiences and stronger business outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between ITIL® 4 and ITIL® Version 5?

ITIL® 4 focused on IT service management and introduced the Service Value System. ITIL® Version 5 builds on this foundation and expands the scope to full digital product and service management, addressing AI, automation and modern digital operations. It unifies product and service delivery into a single lifecycle, making it relevant beyond IT teams to anyone involved in delivering digital value.

  • Is ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) right for me if I already hold an ITIL® v3 or ITIL® 4 certification?

Yes. ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) is the recommended starting point for anyone updating their credentials from v3 or ITIL® 4. It establishes the new language and concepts of Version 5 and is a prerequisite for all advanced Version 5 qualifications.

  • How difficult is the ITIL® Foundation exam?

The Foundation exam is designed to test recall and understanding of the framework, it is not a practical application exam. With 2 days of instructor-led training, the included practice exams and our post-course support, most candidates are well-prepared. A pass mark of 65% (26 out of 40) is required.

  • Can I sit the exam in my own time?

Yes. Your exam voucher is valid for 12 months and you can schedule your exam at any time through the PeopleCert website, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • What comes after ITIL® Foundation (Version 5)?

Foundation is the prerequisite for all eight ITIL® (Version 5) advanced modules. Depending on your role and goals, you can progress towards the Practice Manager, Managing Professional or Strategic Leader designation, or pursue all three to achieve ITIL® Master status.
