ITIL is the global best practice framework for Digital Product and Service Management. It is the world's most widely adopted IT service management framework, trusted by over 3 million professionals, powering 82% of the Fortune 500, and used by more than 50,000 organisations worldwide.
ITIL Version 5 is the next evolution of ITIL 4. Where previous versions focused on IT service management, ITIL Version 5 goes further, as IT moves to the front lines of business, it's relevant wherever digital products and services create value. ITIL Version 5 is designed for AI-driven, digital-first organisations and expands the framework from service management to full digital product and service management.
ITIL Version 5 guides organisations in managing digital products, services, customer experience and end-to-end digital operations in a structured and future-ready way.
Many organisations manage products and services separately, creating gaps in delivery, reliability and customer experience. In reality, they are two sides of the same coin:
Products are what organisations build
Services are how value is delivered and supported
ITIL Version 5 unifies them into one lifecycle so teams can:
Design together | Build and launch together | Operate and improve together |
Align product and service design from the start | Reduce handoff gaps and launch faster | Continuously improve as one connected team |
The result: faster delivery, fewer gaps, better experiences and stronger business outcomes.
ITIL® Foundation (Version 5) introduces you to:
The key concepts of digital product and service management and the common language used across organisations
The ITIL® framework, including its guiding principles, core models and fundamental concepts
How these elements work together to create, deliver and continually improve digital products and services
How the ITIL® framework has evolved to support modern technologies, data-driven decision-making, automation and artificial intelligence — while remaining adaptable to different organisational contexts
This course also explains how value is co-created through the effective management of products and services, and how organisations apply ITIL® guidance to improve performance, collaboration and outcomes.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Explain the core concepts of digital product and service management and apply ITIL® terminology confidently across your organisation
Describe how value is co-created through collaboration between service providers, consumers and stakeholders - weighing outcomes, costs, risks, experience and sustainability
Describe the four dimensions of product and service management and explain how each contributes to effective delivery:
Organisations and People
Information and Technology
Value Streams and Processes
Partners and Suppliers
Explain the ITIL® Service Value System and how it brings together the Guiding Principles, Governance, Value Chain activities, Management Practices and Continual Improvement
Apply the ITIL® Guiding Principles to make better decisions, collaborate more effectively and adapt ITIL® practices to real-world digital environments
Describe the product and service lifecycle and the role of value chain activities within it
Identify key ITIL® Management Practices and explain how they support effective service delivery
Explain how continual improvement is embedded within the ITIL® framework and supports long-term organisational success
Identify, map and manage value streams to improve flow, visibility and outcomes across digital products and services
