Give your team one day and they'll walk away knowing what Agile project management actually feels like, not just what it means.
The Challenge of Egypt™ is an immersive, hands-on business simulation designed to bring Agile to life. Teams work through a realistic project scenario using Sprints, a Product Backlog, Sprint Reviews and Deployment, experiencing firsthand how Agile principles drive better collaboration, faster delivery and stronger results.
Delivered by ITSM Hub's expert facilitators at your premises or via virtual classroom, this workshop is fully customisable to your organisation's learning objectives.
Reading about Agile is one thing. Doing it under pressure, adapting to changing requirements, managing a backlog, running Sprints with a real team is something else entirely.
Research consistently shows that people retain significantly more from experiential learning than from passive instruction. Business simulations bridge the gap between theory and practice, creating shared experiences that teams carry back into their day-to-day work. The Challenge of Egypt™ is purpose-built for exactly that delivering genuine Agile insight in a single, high-impact day.
Developed by GamingWorks, one of the world's leading creators of business simulations used by 350+ trained facilitators across the globe, The Challenge of Egypt™ places your team in ancient Egypt, working directly with the Pharaoh.
The scenario unfolds as follows: the Pharaoh wants to secure his afterlife and convenes a team of specialists, Architects, Risk Experts, Quarry Experts, Nile Experts and Construction Workers. The team interviews the Pharaoh, creates a product list, and then uses Agile principles to plan and execute Sprints - adapting as requirements evolve, managing dependencies, and delivering incremental value throughout the simulation.
Even as the Pharaoh's requirements change (and they will), the team must respond using Agile practices, just as modern teams do every day.
The simulation runs across multiple rounds, with structured reflection periods between each round where participants surface insights, agree on improvements and apply those improvements in the next round.
Learning objectives can be customised to your organisation's specific needs. Core outcomes include:
Experiencing how Agile best practices work in a realistic project environment, not just as concepts, but as decisions under pressure
Understanding how Agile teams collaborate: roles, dependencies, and the rhythm of a Sprint cycle
Practising Sprint Planning, Product Backlog management, Sprint Review and Deployment in action
Discovering how to increase project performance and deliver greater customer value through iterative delivery
Translating Agile training theory into hands-on practice, bridging the gap between certification and application
Identifying concrete improvements to how your team manages and runs projects
The Challenge of Egypt™ is the perfect companion to Agile and Scrum certification courses. We can run this simulation as a standalone team workshop, or schedule it as a third day immediately following your Agile certification training, bringing all the concepts to life while they're still fresh. It pairs naturally with Scrum Master, Product Owner, Agile Essentials and Scrum Essentials training.
This simulation is ideal for teams of any size who want a shared, practical Agile experience. It suits:
IT software development and operations teams adopting or scaling Agile
IT Service Management teams working alongside Agile delivery teams
Project managers and product managers transitioning to Agile ways of working
Mixed business and IT teams building a common understanding of Agile
Leadership groups seeking to understand the culture change Agile requires
Any team that has completed Agile certification and wants to put it into practice
No prerequisites. No prior Agile experience is required, though the simulation is especially powerful when combined with or following an Agile certification course.

Absolutely, this is one of the most effective ways to run it. We can schedule the simulation as a third day immediately following an Agile Scrum certification course, so participants put their new knowledge into practice straight away.
No. This is a practical workshop, not an examination. The value is in the shared team experience and the takeaways participants bring back to their workplace.
