About this course

Where Foundation builds knowledge and awareness, Practitioner builds capability. This course focuses on the applied dimensions of change management that distinguish effective change leaders from those who follow process without impact: how to embed change so that it sticks; how to manage learning and development as part of the transition; how to coach and support colleagues through the uncertainty; and how to navigate the conflict that arises when people are pushed beyond their comfort zones.

The Practitioner course is deliberately applied, it prepares participants for a case-study-based examination that assesses the ability to make sound, context-sensitive change management decisions on a realistic organisational scenario, using the official APMG Change Management Study Guide as a reference. This open-book format rewards understanding and application rather than memory.

The course also introduces collaborative approaches to change design, recognising that the most sustainable change is built with people, not done to them.

Are there any prerequisites?

You must hold a valid Change Management Foundation certificate to attend this course. You will also need access to the official APMG Change Management Study Guide for the examination (provided as an eBook with the Foundation course and included in the bundle).

Certification & Exam

Successful candidates earn the Change Management Practitioner certification, awarded by APMG International. Your exam voucher is issued on the first morning of the course.

The Practitioner exam uses an objective testing format based on a case study scenario, assessing your ability to apply change management knowledge to realistic organisational situations, not simply recall it. The exam is open book: the official APMG Change Management Study Guide is the only permitted reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Practitioner exam different from Foundation?
The Foundation exam is 40 minutes, closed book and tests knowledge and understanding through 50 straightforward multiple-choice questions. The Practitioner exam is 2.5 hours, open book and uses an objective testing format based on a realistic case study, 5 sections of 16 marks each. It tests your ability to apply change management principles to complex, ambiguous situations, not just recall them. It is significantly more demanding and rewards genuine understanding.
Can I take this course immediately after Foundation?
Yes, many participants attend Foundation and Practitioner consecutively, particularly those in the Foundation & Practitioner Bundle. However, there is no requirement to attend back-to-back; you simply need to hold Foundation certification before enrolling.
